Yamaha's naming is the least intuitive of the three major brands, because the model changed name partway through and the generations overlap in how their parts behave. Here is the plain version.
The generations
- G14 — mid 1990s. Start of the modern G-series drivetrain.
- G16 — late 1990s.
- G19 — around 2000.
- G22 — roughly 2003 to 2007. The last of the classic G-series body.
- G29 / Drive — 2007 to 2016. Clean-sheet redesign. Yamaha marketed the G29 as the "Drive", so the two names refer to the same cart.
- Drive2 — 2017 onward. Revised body and front end.
What carries over
Within G14–G22 a great deal does. Brake shoes and springs, hub bearings, clutch components and many drivetrain parts are commonly listed as fitting the whole G14–G22 range. This is why so many listings show that exact span.
From G22 to G29 much less does. The 2007 redesign changed the body, the frame and the rear end. Some brake and drivetrain components carry over; body panels, seats and enclosures do not.
From Drive to Drive2 the drivetrain largely continues but the body changed. Seat covers often carry over; enclosures, windshields and body panels do not.
Finding your model
The serial plate is under the seat or on the frame near the driver-side front. If you only have the shape to go on: the G-series carts have the older squared body with visible seams, while the Drive and Drive2 have a smoother, more modern front with integrated lighting recesses.
Gas or electric
Yamaha sold both throughout. Body and accessory parts are shared, but clutches, carburettor parts and starter components only exist on gas models, while controllers, solenoids and chargers only exist on electric ones. The listing always states which.
The one-line rule
If the part is mechanical and your cart is between G14 and G22, check the range — it probably fits. If the part touches the body, the seat or the roof, match the exact generation.
