The magnet needs steel to hold. On plastic or aluminium, use the adhesive plate or strap supplied with many mounts, or choose a clamp or strut-mounted caddy.

Will a MagSafe holder work with my phone?

MagSafe holders are made for iPhone 12 and later. Other phones need a magnetic ring or a MagSafe-compatible case.
