Cart brakes are drum brakes on nearly every model, and the wear items are the shoes, the springs and the self-adjusting hardware. Kits that include the spring set save the usual second order. Club Car has used several very different chassis over the years, so the single most useful thing you can do before ordering is identify your model and year.

Fitment and sizing. Serial number plate sits under the passenger-side dash or on the frame behind the driver-side rear wheel. The first two characters tell you the model year. Brake hardware is year-specific — Club Car changed the DS brake design in 1995 and the RXV uses motor braking rather than a conventional drive-axle brake.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know when golf cart brake shoes need replacing?

Longer stopping distances, a pedal that travels further before biting, or a scraping noise from the rear drums. Pull a drum and check the lining thickness.

How do I tell a Club Car DS from a Precedent?

The DS has a squared-off body with a separate front bumper and exposed hardware. The Precedent has a smooth, rounded front cowl and integrated bumper. Parts are rarely interchangeable between the two.
