Every new driver generation brings a new weight port, and every year a number of people order last season's weight because the head looks similar. Here is what changed in the current generation and what does not carry over.
Ping: G440 replaces G430
The G440 family — Max, LST and SFT — keeps Ping's rear tungsten weight approach, but the port is specific to the G440. G430 and G425 weights do not thread into a G440. That is the single most common mis-order in this category right now, because the three generations look alike from above.
Titleist: GT replaces TSR
The GT family splits into GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4, and they are not weighted the same way. The GT3 retains the adjustable CG track across the sole; GT2 and GT4 use fixed rear ports. That means a GT3 track weight and a GT2 rear-port weight are different parts, and neither is a TSR weight.
Within TSR the same split existed: TSR3 had the track, TSR2 and TSR4 the rear port.
TaylorMade: Qi4D, Qi35 and Qi10
The Qi line has run through several generations quickly. Weights are sold by gram value and the Max and LS heads use different ports within the same generation. Before ordering, check which head you have — not just which family.
On the putter side, Spider weights remain pair-fitted and differ between Tour, X, GT and GTX.
Cobra: DS-Adapt and Darkspeed
Cobra uses front and back ports, which is a genuinely useful design because it lets you move mass fore and aft rather than only heel-toe. The practical catch is that front and back ports take different screw lengths — order by position as well as gram value. DS-Adapt is the current platform; Darkspeed and LTDX precede it.
Callaway: Elyte, Ai Smoke and Paradym
Callaway has kept a sliding perimeter track on the Triple Diamond and X heads across generations, but the parts are not shared between Elyte, Ai Smoke and the original Paradym. Check the generation.
Putters: Odyssey and Scotty Cameron
Odyssey's current family is Ai-ONE; Stroke Lab and White Hot precede it, and the sole weights differ. Scotty Cameron weights vary by model line — Newport, Phantom, Futura and GoLo all take their own parts — and stock values depend on putter length, because a 33-inch head is built differently from a 35.
In all cases, putter weights are fitted in pairs. Change both.
The rule that saves the order
Read the gram value off the original weight — most are stamped — and match the exact head family, not the brand. If the original is not stamped, weigh it; a kitchen scale accurate to 1 gram is enough. Then use the manufacturer's own torque wrench, because the ports are soft alloy and a stripped port costs far more than the weight.
